Madame Alexander, Beatrice Alexander Behrman, was once just a woman with a dream, and she was determined to make that dream a reality.

She believed that dolls should engage a child`s imagination, give them happiness and joy, and enhance their understanding of the world. Literature played a big part in her inspiration for many of her doll creations. She started her business in the 1920`s with her sisters making handmade cloth dolls under the name Alexander Doll Company.

The Madame Alexander Doll Company started by making composition dolls with painted features and sleep eyes.

She created dolls in honor of living people, as well as dolls based on characters from movies.

She pioneered the use of hard plastic in dolls, and introduced the first full-figured haute couture (high fashion) Cissy doll in the 1950`s. The Madame Alexander Collection is growing all the time.


Today, Madame Alexander Doll Company still upholds their mission and standards to create dolls that appeal to new generations.

They still make a full line of handcrafted collectible dolls, as well as baby dolls, runway fashion dolls, and today`s most popular licensed dolls such as Disney Princesses, Hello Kitty, and many others. adame Alexander dolls became one of the most popular McDonald`s Happy Meal today`s of all time with the 2002 debut.

Beatrice Alexander Behrman died in 1990 at the age of 95, but her legacy still lives on through children and private doll collectors all around the world.
